the purpose of art therapy is just like any other psychotherapeutic therapy. it is to improve or amintain the mental health and emotional well being of a patient. while art thereapy is defferent is that it generally uses drawing, painting, sculpting, photography and other forms of visual art expression for explanation of ones feelings and processes of therapy. art therapists are trained to recognize nonverbal symbols and metaphore that are communicated within these creative expressions that the patients make.

art therapists help thier patients discover underlying thoughts and feelings that are being communicated in the artwork that they make and what it means to them, hopefully the patients will not only gain insight and judgment but a deeper understanding on what is going on with them.
